Welcome to the third installment of our employee spotlight series. We’d love to take this opportunity to introduce you to James Singer, an SEO Manager here at ZOG Digital.
James is one of our SEO departments managers and is a true wizard when it comes to all things reporting, specifically in Excel. When he’s not assisting in day-to-day optimizations, suggestions, and reporting, he’s enjoying the outdoors, heavily involved in sports banter, or chowing down on Mexican food.
When did you first join the ZTeam? And what was your starting position?
I started in February of 2015 as a Link Builder on the SEO team.
How did you wind up in digital marketing?
I actually went to school for digital marketing. I graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in marketing that had a big focus on digital marketing. But my first experience with marketing was when I started my own video production company in high school. I decided I didn't want to have a career in video production, but I really liked the marketing side of growing the business. From there, I decided to go to school for digital marketing.
What's your favorite work event to this day?
That's a hard one. I would say the ZD Summit was my favorite event we've had. A week of digital marketing discussions and golf is an ideal week for me.
But also, there was this one bowling event we had and I bowled a 194. I’m not a good bowler, so that was really unexpected and fun!
What's your go-to Phoenix activity?
I love the outdoors and Phoenix is a great place for that (other than in the summer). I really enjoy mountain biking and hiking. After a day of mountain biking, there is nothing better than stopping by a brewery or a Mexican joint to grab a beer and some food.
What would your ideal weekend look like?
In the summer, an ideal weekend would be driving out to San Diego to hang out at the beach, do a little surfing, relaxing, and eating Mexican food.
The rest of the year, staying in town, going on a cool hike or mountain bike ride, and of course, eating Mexican food!
If you had to watch only one sport for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I'm a huge sports fan. I watch all of the local teams, but I would say baseball and football are my favorites. It's hard to beat drinking a beer and watching a ballgame. Plus there are 162 baseball games every season versus only 16 football games per season. I choose baseball.
What songs have you completely memorized?
Most of the songs off Tha Carter II by Lil Wayne. Also, I really like going to the dueling piano bar in Tempe. They play a lot of sing-along type songs, and I know most of those.
When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with?
Mostly Excel, or if a report isn't acting right, they will come over and we figure it out.
What song or artist do you like, but rarely admit to liking?
One song that I'm not proud of liking is 23 by Miley Cyrus. I tell people I only like the verse with Juicy J, but I like the whole song.
What would be your spirit animal and why?
Probably a Golden Retriever. I like to be active sometimes or in short doses, but I truly want to just be lazy and eat. My spirit animal would be a Golden Retriever that eats Mexican food and drinks beer.
