Influencer limelight: Being a mommy makeup maven with Miss Ellarie

From Vlogs to Photos, Brands get a Big Bold Beauty Boost

From numerous techniques and products, bold personality, tips, and tutorials with her daughter, Miss Ellarie set her apart from the crowd in the realm of makeup. She’s been fortunate enough to work with worldwide favorite cosmetic brands, develop her own makeup products, and even been featured in Refinery29, Buzzfeed, and TeenVogue.

ZOG Digital met with Ellarie to discuss on how she became a successful makeup influencer, her goals for the future, and how she balances her personal and professional life.

ZD: How and when did you find yourself invested in makeup?

Ellarie: During my high school years as a competitive cheerleader we had to do our own make-up and the interest grew from there.

ZD: When did you decide to take your passion and talents to digital?

Ellaire: Probably around 2011 I just randomly started posting pictures on Instagram and people seemed to really like the posts where I would show my makeup… so I turned it into a hobby and now it has become a career.

ZD: What's your favorite part about tutorials and how do you determine the topics for your tutorial videos?

Ellaire: My favorite part is when people say how much they like the look or are inspired and they re-create it on themselves. Most of the time I just sit in front of the camera and do whatever comes to mind, sometimes the topics come from viewers who have suggested, or if I'm participating in a campaign I'll create a look centered around a particular product for a brand.

ZD: What does a day in your shoes look like?

Ellarie: Busy! I have to get my daughter, @yoshidoll, up and off to school. I film and edit all of my social media platforms, so I attempt to work on that while she is in school. Depending on her after-school activities, we may not be back home until after 5 pm.

By the time I cook dinner, help her with her homework and get her in the bed without a fuss, it may be after 9 pm. Then I am back to filming and editing my projects which most of the time takes me into the early hours of the morning for the process to start all over again. It’s really hectic if I am working on her filming projects and mine at the same time.

ZD: Do you work with any brands currently as an ambassador or influencer?

Ellarie: I’m actively working with CoverGirl, but I love that I'm able to work with different brands all the time such as Lancôme, Revlon, Benefit, Smashbox, Becca & MAC to name a few. I have also collaborated with Colour Pop (where I have a signature lippie & liner called Ellarie) and Motives Cosmetics.

ZD: You’re not only an amazing makeup artist and beauty influencer, but a mother of an awesome daughter, YoshiDoll. How do you balance everything?

Ellaire: With a lot of patience and prayer! Haha.

ZD: What was the initial reaction of gaining followers and when did you notice a lift in your social media presence?

Ellaire: I was actually surprised! I did not initially set out to make a living posting pictures, it was just random and for fun.

I noticed it was a big deal when brands I grew up using were reaching out to me and people started making fan pages and recognizing me when I'm out. It's still kinda weird for me though honestly because I really I don't feel or act any different, so it's always a surreal feeling when so many people tell me stories of how I've inspired them.

ZD: Who influences you?

Ellarie: Honestly my daughter is my biggest influence. I was pretty content before I had her, didn't worry about much as long as my bills were paid. But she was my wake-up call and every day I see her grow and how happy she is it just makes me want to work harder and harder!

ZD: What’s your favorite step in make-up?

Ellaire: Me, when I’m trying, it’s probably eyeliner. Probably the lips, especially when I'm using a bold color...I love to ombré them.

ZD: You’re stranded on a deserted island, what’s the one cosmetic item you have?

Ellarie: Maybe lip balm. I'm not gonna worry about being cute on a deserted island, but chapped lips drive me crazy!

ZD: When you’re not expressing yourself through makeup, what are you doing?

Ellaire: Trying to be the best mommy I can be for my daughter.

ZD: You’re busy working, teaching, and traveling, what’s next on the agenda for you?

Ellaire: I would really like to do lifestyle vlogs with my daughter and secure a big makeup collaboration. Sometimes we have such a fun dynamic at home that I think people would enjoy seeing. I loved the process of creating products so I want to do it again even bigger, with my face and name in stores like Sephora.
